Public Hearing on Nuisance Property at 2536 Polk Street, September 10 at 1pm

A public hearing will be held on September 10 at 1:00 pm in Room 317 of City Hall, 350 S. 5th St., on the proposed demolition of the property at 2536 Polk Street NE. The Nuisance Condition Process Review Panel will hear an appeal of an order of the Director of Inspections to demolish this property. You may present testimony at the hearing on the alleged nuisance.

Proposals Received for Hollywood Theater Reuse

The City of Minneapolis has received proposals from three different parties interested in rehabilitating the Hollywood Theater building. The City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) in June for reuse of the vacant theater building and adjacent vacant property. Proposals were due July 31.

Full-Service Residential Energy Program Coming to Audubon!

Launching in early 2010, the Community Energy Services (CES) program will give Audubon homeowners the chance to be among the first Minnesota residents to participate in a new full-service residential energy program!

Central Avenue Corridor Bicycle Study Meeting, July 30

A meeting will be held on Thurs., July 30, 7:00 p.m. at the Northeast Library, 2200 Central Ave. NE, on the progress of the Central Avenue Bicycle Study. Attendees will be able to provide input and feedback about bicycle lanes on Central, between 37th Ave. NE and the Mississippi River. Public Works staff will review proposed designs for segments between 37th Ave. NE and the Mississippi River.

City's Planning Commission Approves Audubon Crossing Project

On June 8, the City's Planning Commission approved a site plan for a three-story, 30-unit apartment building on the north side of Lowry Avenue between Central Avenue and Polk Street. The project, known as Audubon Crossing, will include 26 affordable, workforce units and 4 units available homeless families.

New RFP Issued for Reuse of Hollywood Theater

The City of Minneapolis has issued a new Request for Proposals (RFP) for our vacant theater building. The current Hollywood Task Force has worked through the winter to remove obstacles to development. Preservation and zoning issues have been addressed. Perhaps the most significant difference from the past is the City and community’s willingness to support a non-entertainment use for the structure. Proposals are due July 31. Finance and Commerce has the story:

“Our goal is to reactivate the building and we need to find a financially viable way to do that. At the same time we want to preserve the building and preserve its character defining features,” said Miles Mercer, senior project coordinator with the city’s Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) department.

Restorative Justice Community Conference to be Held on July 9 at 5:30 pm

On Wednesday, July 9th, at 5:30 pm, Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) will hold a community conference in your area to address a disruptive party incident that took place at 3023 Pierce St NE in April of this year. It is our understanding that this citation was called in by a neighbor and that previous calls have been made concerning this address.
