New RFP Issued for Reuse of Hollywood Theater

The City of Minneapolis has issued a new Request for Proposals (RFP) for our vacant theater building. The current Hollywood Task Force has worked through the winter to remove obstacles to development. Preservation and zoning issues have been addressed. Perhaps the most significant difference from the past is the City and community’s willingness to support a non-entertainment use for the structure. Proposals are due July 31. Finance and Commerce has the story:

“Our goal is to reactivate the building and we need to find a financially viable way to do that. At the same time we want to preserve the building and preserve its character defining features,” said Miles Mercer, senior project coordinator with the city’s Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) department.

On Wednesday, July 9th, at 5:30 pm, Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) will hold a community conference in your area to address a disruptive party incident that took place at 3023 Pierce St NE in April of this year. It is our understanding that this citation was called in by a neighbor and that previous calls have been made concerning this address. Community members are invited to attend and share their thoughts on the personal and collective impact of incidents like these. An individual cited at the party is participating in our alternative justice process and will be present at the conference in order to more fully comprehend the effect of their behavior on communities like yours. We also expect two other individuals at this conference, who have committed offenses in Columbia Park and Northeast Park.

CP Rail Seeks Development Proposals for Shoreham Yards

The Canadian Pacific Railroad is seeking development proposals for two properties it owns in Northeast Minneapolis: a 17.9 acre site along Central Avenue 28th Avenue NE and 30th Avenue NE and an 18.5 acre property along the south side of St. Anthony Parkway, west of Central Avenue. Proposals are due on June 1. CP is interested in disposing of the properties if qualified developers are interested in developing projects that are compatible with the railroad's existing operations. The proposed use of the Central Avenue site is commercial, industrial, or mixed-use and the proposed use of the St. Anthony Parkway site is primarily residential. More detailed information on these two requests for proposals (RFP) may be found at this page:
