On Wednesday, July 9th, at 5:30 pm, Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) will hold a community conference in your area to address a disruptive party incident that took place at 3023 Pierce St NE in April of this year. It is our understanding that this citation was called in by a neighbor and that previous calls have been made concerning this address. Community members are invited to attend and share their thoughts on the personal and collective impact of incidents like these. An individual cited at the party is participating in our alternative justice process and will be present at the conference in order to more fully comprehend the effect of their behavior on communities like yours. We also expect two other individuals at this conference, who have committed offenses in Columbia Park and Northeast Park. This is an outstanding opportunity for you to express your views and benefit your neighborhood by working toward a constructive solution together with offenders.
RJCA is a Minneapolis-based non-profit program that works in over 50 different neighborhoods, including all of Northeast. It offers an alternative to the criminal justice system by focusing on how crimes violate people and communities, with an eye toward repairing the harm that is done. Some of the livability offenses that we address include littering, public urination, drinking in public, disorderly conduct, loitering to buy or sell narcotics, and noise violations. Conference attendees arrive at creative solutions that may require the offender to volunteer at a neighborhood organization, make a monetary donation, engage in certain personal development projects, or write letters of apology.
We welcome your participation in this community conference, but please note that space is limited, so please get in touch with us as soon as possible if you are interested! You may contact me at 612-746-0782 or at slarson@rjca-inc.org with any questions or concerns.
