As the new Community Service Area (CSA) Lead for Audubon Park, Scott Gagnon is no stranger to recreation. He started at the Minneapolis Park Board when he was in high school and stayed through college. After a year at the Boys and Girls Club, he returned to the Park Board in 1991 as a Youth Line Outreach Mentor. He was stationed at Northeast Park for about five years and was promoted to Park Director, where he served at Sibley Park in South Minneapolis for one year and five years at Logan Park.
For the past nine years, Scott has worked in the Community Service Department administering youth and adult athletics. He ran everything from adult softball to youth broomball.
Last fall, he assumed the new role of CSA Lead for Waite, Windom, and Audubon Park. The CSA applies park and recreation resources to best meet the communities’ programs and service needs. Doing so enables parks to band together using their individual strengths to provide the strongest programs for their area. Waite, Windom, and Audubon Park were the pilot parks for the CSA model. As a result, Audubon Park has developed a successful gymnastics program that makes use of its building. All the parks are very busy with programs year-round.
Running a center is nothing new to Scott, but a lot has changed, like the new computerized registration system recently installed. The new online system is exciting and challenging right now, he says, but he expects it to be more user-friendly and streamlined in the future.
Scott grew up in NE and has played various sports at all the Northeast parks. His first home was in Waite Park, and he adds that he was always “hanging out at a park as a kid.”
Working in the Northeast area has always been a positive experience for him.
"I love how the people care about Northeast and the parks. They work to keep Northeast vibrant. It is such a good community," he said.
Most of Scott's free time is spent on a sports field of one kind or another with his wife, Kristen watching their three sons, (Connor, 12, Kyle, 8, and Caden 5) play a variety of sports.
