This year's murals will adorn the INSIDE of the co-op! The Eastside Food Co-op has always been enthusiastic about showing the work of local artists. Five murals were put up on the outside of the building in 2006. In 2007, three more murals were added.
This year, the Co-op is looking for an artist to paint a much bigger mural for the inside of the store: one mural (roughly 4 feet x 28 feet) to be hung above the frozen food section on the back wall of the store.
All costs for supplies will be paid for by the Co-op. The artist will receive a stipend of $1,000. In addition, the artist selected, and all artists who submit proposals, will have the opportunity to participate in a show to highlight the diversity and talent of local artists in the area.
Please supply a "to-scale" representation of what you would like the mural to look like, along with a written statement (max. one page) about your idea, and an application form. This image will be displayed at the store, and possibly other locations, so please make sure it is a complete, original work (no sketches or reproductions.)
The final image will be chosen by a committee made up of Co-op members, with plans to hang the art by November 2008. More information and an application form can be obtained by visiting the Co-op. Please no phone calls. Application deadline: August 15, 2008.
Applications can be picked up at the Eastside Food Co-op, 2551 Central Ave NE any day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
