In the two years since May 1st, 2006, Audubon Park has suffered 70 foreclosures. 62 of those were west of Johnson Street. There are approximately 2300 housing units in our neighborhood.
Attached below is a list (in Excel format) of the foreclosed properties as of April 28, 2008. Some have come through the process and have new owners and/or new occupants. Those in italic have passed the Redemption Period, the final stage of forecosure, and are most likely bank-owned or sold.
Foreclosures certainly have a dramatic effect on our quality of life. Despite the often-reported tragedies, foreclosures can be a benefit to the community. Problem properties, such as drug houses, become a smaller problems when they no longer provide haven for criminal activity. A foreclosed house, too, can be an opportunity for new homeowners ready to build fresh equity in our neighborhood.
