Community Meeting Minutes

July 9, 2012

Attendees: Board members Nic Baker, Kevin Kelly, Adam Sieve, Candace Baker, Justin Kwong, Sean Koebele, Jeff Smyser, and 11 community members

  1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M..

  1. Review of agenda: The agenda order was changed to allow guest presenters to go first.

  1. Review and approve board meeting minutes from May 7, 2012: Justin moved to approve, Gavin Watt seconded. Minutes were approved as written.

  1. Officer and committee reports

    1. President’s report

      1. Nic received word about stolen tools being re-sold on Craig’s list. The police recommend that you have some way of proving ownership of tools, etc. The person whose tools were being sold had no way of proving they were his and was not able to recover them.

      2. Nic asked what people think we should do with the coupon the ANA receives each month from the NE Co-op. After a brief discussion, it was decided to use it as a door prize at end of community meetings.

    1. Treasurer’s report: Cash account balance: $4,727

    2. Housing committee: Jeff reminds the community that there are several revolving loan accounts for housing rehab with low interest rates. Details are available on the ANA Website.

  1. New business

    1. Michael Smieja, Buchanan Street Farms

      1. Michael is doing urban farming on Buchanan St, just south of Lowry

      2. The 2200 sq.foot farm will be open for sales or visits Friday afternoons after 6:00pm will be open for sales (a week form this Friday) or hanging

    2. NE Investment Co-op presentation (Steve Sylvester and Gavin Watt)

      1. Steve and Gavin provided an overview of the Co-op and provided a handout.

    3. City of Minneapolis and Eastside Food Co-op: Post-consumer Plastics recycling presentation

      1. Representatives presented a PowerPoint presentation about recycling and plastics.

      2. Single-sort recycling will begin throughout Minneapolis as of January 2013.

  1. Access to floor

    1. Marty from Castle Building offered a “public apology” for the appearance of a building he owns on Central Avenue and assured the community that it will be taken care of. He also reminded the community that National Night Out is August 2 and that Castle Building has a castle jumper that they loan out to any group who wants it for an event

  1. Adjournment: Gavin Watt moved to adjourn; Sonja Peterson seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:09 P.M..
